ANARKISS is run by Lisa and Lucy, a twenty-something-year-old working-class lesbian couple based in the North of England.

ANARKISS was founded in 2024 as a place for marginalised artists to see their work published. It started out as a handful of pages haphazardly sellotaped together, proper DIY style!

Since then, ANARKISS has grown into an internationally renowned publication, and, to date, we have published over 400 queer artists across 11 issues.

Through poetry, essays, visual art, and experimental work, ANARKISS exists to challenge dominant narratives while celebrating the transformative power of community and DIY culture.

OUR STORY

The inspiration for ANARKISS came from a lingering sense of frustration toward the inequality that exists in the literary world, and the sense that ‘it’s not what you know, it’s who you know.’ With Lisa’s experience in publishing and editing, combined with Lucy’s experience working for no other than the punk queen that is Vivienne Westwood, two dykes set out to transform the world of publishing, one zine at a time.

Together, Lisa and Lucy are building something really special. Far more than a publishing company, ANARKISS is a community grounded in collaboration, defiance, and the belief that art remains one of the most powerful tools for resistance and change.

Join them as they build a future where justice isn’t a dream, but a shared reality.

Whether you’re a poet or a photographer, a short story writer or a graphic designer, through ANARKISS’ open submission policy (international applicants welcome!), artists are provided with a platform through which they can see their work in print.

As well as bi-monthly collaborative issues, ANARKISS is now also offering individual artists an opportunity to publish their work in a zine-length anthology.

Selected artists will receive full editorial support and guidance to compile a zine consisting solely of their work. ANARKISS will get it professionally printed and stocked in radical bookstores around the world. ANARKISS will also host space for it to be sold via their official website.

Because Anarchism isn’t only rage; it’s also care, love, and creation.

A name for the tension between breaking and blooming, ANARKISS serves as a reminder to us all that resistance can be tender without losing its teeth, and that to imagine otherwise is already to rebel.

Art as protest, poems as barricades, bodies as manifestos. Words that unbuild the world and start again. ANARKISS is the invitation—come closer, unlearn, and remake.
